SUSTAINABLE
COASTAL COMMUNITIES
Coastal
communities must balance the often divergent needs of maintaining
economic growth, protecting public infrastructure, planning for
and responding to natural hazards, and preserving natural and
cultural assets. Planning and managing in such a daunting situation
with limited resources is a critical challenge for Louisiana’s
coastal communities, which are primarily rural. Louisiana Sea
Grant is committed, through applied research and outreach, to
assisting community leaders in coping with many of these challenges.
