The LSU Office of Sea Grant Development was created by the Board
of Supervisors in 1968 to obtain and administer funds competitively
awarded to select universities under the National Sea Grant College
Program Act of 1966 and supplement those legislatively mandated
efforts with additional resources secured from governmental agencies
and the private sector. The vision and mission of LSU Sea Grant
recognizes the need for congruency with Congressionally mandated
objectives, strategic plans developed and implemented by the National
Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the mission of Louisiana
State University, and the needs of Louisiana and the Gulf of Mexico
region.
