Louisiana Sea Grant Receives APEX Award
July 6, 2005

BATON ROUGE – The Louisiana Sea Grant College Program (LSGCP) communications office is the recipient of the 2005 APEX Award of Excellence in Design and Layout for LSGCP’s publication “Functions and Values of Wetlands in Louisiana.” The publication discusses the role of wetlands in providing wildlife habitat, buffering storms, controlling erosion and mitigating floods. It also describes the commercial, recreational and cultural values of wetlands, as well as wetlands conservation efforts.

Nearly 5,000 entries in 11 categories and 109 subcategories were submitted to the Seventh Annual Awards for Publication Excellence (APEX) competition, sponsored by Communications Concepts Inc. In 2004, LSGCP’s research magazine, “Coast & Sea,” received an Award of Excellence.

Since its establishment in 1968, LSGCP has worked to promote stewardship of the state’s coastal resources through a combination of research, education and outreach programs critical to the cultural, economic and environmental health of Louisiana’s coastal zone. Louisiana Sea Grant, based at Louisiana State University, is part of the National Sea Grant Program, a network of 30 programs in each of the U.S. coastal and Great Lakes states and Puerto Rico/U.S. Virgin Islands.
