“Building
A Safer Louisiana” Forum Thursday, June 2
May 26, 2005
BATON ROUGE
– As demonstrated so dramatically by the four major storms
of 2004, Louisiana’s coastal buildings and communities remain
vulnerable to devastation from hurricanes. In view of this fact,
a forum titled “Building A Safer Louisiana: What Should
Be In the Blueprint?” will be held Thursday, June 2 from
1:30-3:45 p.m. at the Sheraton Convention Center Hotel, 102 France
St., Baton Rouge – one day after the start of the 2005 hurricane
season. Admission to the forum is free.
Forum sponsors include
Louisiana State University, the LSU AgCenter, the LSU Hurricane
Center, the Structural Engineering Institute, State Farm Insurance,
the Louisiana Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness,
the Institute for Business and Home Safety and the Louisiana Sea
Grant College Program.
Speakers will be Richard
Dickson, executive director of the Florida Building Commission;
Tim Reinhold, vice president of engineering for the Institute
for Business and Home Safety; and Art Jones, disaster recovery
division chief of the Louisiana Office of Homeland Security and
Emergency Preparedness. They will offer insights from Florida’s
hurricane experiences and discuss Louisiana’s vulnerabilities.
Their presentations will serve as a springboard for a panel discussion
and audience input.
Although the
forum is free and open to the public, participants are asked to
register by contacting Roy Kron at rkron@lsu.edu.
