Shrimping to Close in Breton and Chandeleur Sounds
March 30, 2005

Shrimpers are reminded that the open waters of Breton and Chandeleur Sounds as described in the menhaden rule (LAC 76:VII.307D) will close to shrimping effective 6 a.m. Thursday, March 31, 2005. Effective with this closure, all state inside waters will be closed to shrimping. At its August, 2004 meeting, the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission approved the closing date in these waters and provided authority to Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Secretary Dwight Landreneau to change the closing dates if biological and technical data indicate a need to do so or if enforcement problems develop and to close all or parts of state inside and outside waters if significant numbers of small white shrimp are found in these waters. The LDWF has collected no data or received any evidence which would justify extending the shrimp season in Breton and Chandeleur Sounds.
