Lindstedt joins Gulf of Mexico Alliance
July 31, 2008

Photo: Dianne LindstedtDianne Lindstedt has been selected to serve as a Louisiana Representative on the Environmental Education Priority Issue Team of The Gulf of Mexico Alliance (GOMA).

Lindstedt is Louisiana Sea Grant’s education coordinator, a post she has held since September 2003.

GOMA is a partnership among Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas that collaborates at the local, state and federal levels to enhance the ecological and economic health of the Gulf of Mexico. It was initiated in 2004 with the goal of addressing Gulf issues and management on a regional scale rather than state by state. Environmental Education is one of the group’s six priority areas, which also include Water Quality for Healthy Beaches and Shellfish Beds, Wetland and Coastal Conservation and Restoration, Identification and Characterization of Gulf Habitats, Reducing Nutrient Inputs to Coastal Ecosystems, and Coastal Community Resiliency.

“GOMA is a good opportunity for Sea Grant to increase its collaboration across the Gulf in marine education issues,” Lindstedt said. “The primary goal of this group is to increase awareness of the importance of Gulf of Mexico resources. I’m looking forward to working with the great group of people from across the Gulf who are focusing on educating and engaging our youth and other citizens.”

Since its establishment in 1968, LSGCP has worked to promote stewardship of the state’s coastal resources through a combination of research, education and outreach programs critical to the cultural, economic and environmental health of Louisiana’s coastal zone. Louisiana Sea Grant, based at Louisiana State University, is part of the National Sea Grant College Program, a network of 32 programs in each of the U.S. coastal and Great Lakes states and Puerto Rico.
