Workshop Addresses Challenges of Building in Coastal Louisiana
December 2, 2011

Architects, engineers, planners and builders will benefit from a two-day workshop where coastal construction practices and the unique challenges of designing and building in coastal Louisiana will be discussed. Building a Resilient Louisiana will be held May 15-16, 2012, in the Dalton Woods Auditorium at the Energy, Coast and Environment building on LSU’s Baton Rouge campus. Registration is $20, and additional information can be found at www.laseagrant.org/ResilientLouisiana .

Planning, siting, design, construction, and maintenance will be among the topics addressed at the workshop, as well as how the different disciplines in the design-construction process can work more collaboratively to find solutions to coastal construction issues. A presentation and discussion on the perception and impacts of flood insurance will immediately follow the workshop. The presentation is open to the public as well as workshop participants.

Hosting the event are the Louisiana Sea Grant College Program, LSU Department of Construction Management and Industrial Engineering, LSU Disaster Science and Management Program, Southern Climate Planning Impacts Program, LSU Department of Construction Management and Industrial Engineering, and the LSU Coastal Sustainability Studio.

For those attending who need overnight accommodations, a block of rooms has been set aside at the StayBridge Suites near campus. A reduced room rate for attendees has been negotiated and information can be found on the workshop website.
