Online Fisheries Information Resource Now Available
June 12, 2003

Louisiana Sea Grant and the Louisiana State University Agricultural Center recently created a new, comprehensive commercial and recreational fisheries resource. Go to http://www.seagrantfish.lsu.edu to find information on:

  • Louisiana aquatic species
  • Fishing gear
  • Fish habitats
  • Fishery regulations
  • Fishery management issues
  • Fishery socio-economic issues
  • Fishery and seafood experts

The site is searchable, and most publications are free, and available electronically or by simple order.

The first goal of the website’s creators was to provide a downloadable archive of the popular fisheries newsletter, Lagniappe, written by Sea Grant Extension Fisheries Specialist Jerald Horst. Every issue since the newsletter’s inception in 1977 can be accessed online or downloaded as a PDF file. Additional fisheries-related information aquaculture, current fisheries and habitat issues enhances the range of available information.

This Web site is designed as a resource for Louisiana and Gulf Coast commercial and recreational fishermen, sports and outdoors writers, and all others with related interests. The creators welcome suggestions for additions that can improve the site.
