Information
about the DARRP Program in Louisiana
Two members
of NOAA’s Damage Assessment, Remediation, and Restoration
Program (DARRP) are co-located in the Louisiana Sea Grant Building
at LSU and act as trustees for natural resources in Louisiana
on behalf of the public. DARRP collaborates with federal, state,
and tribal entities and also works with cleanup agencies (such
as EPA), local organizations, the public, and those responsible
for the incident to:
- protect
coastal and marine natural resources;
- respond
to discharges of oil and hazardous substances;
- assess
risks and injuries to natural resources; and
- restore
injured natural resources and related socioeconomic benefits
DARRP
Accomplishments in Louisiana
- Restoration
and/or protection of 579 acres of marine habitats and 5 acres
of freshwater and terrestrial habitats in Louisiana (completed
and planned activities).
- Development
of the Louisiana Regional Restoration Planning Program (RRP
Program) with state and federal co-trustees to increase the
frequency and efficiency of habitat restoration following oil
discharges
- Settlements
resulting in 9 protection and restoration projects in Louisiana.
- Cleanup
actions promoting recovery of coastal resources and communities
at 5 hazardous waste sites.
