of Position: Assistant/Associate Professor of
Food Science; Tenure-track position (12 month), 80% Extension
in the LSU Sea Grant/Louisiana Cooperative Extension Service and
20% Research in the Louisiana Agricultural Experiment Station.
Duties
& Responsibilities: The primary responsibility
of this position is to develop a nationally recognized extension
and applied research program in the area of seafood technology.
The Assistant/Associate Professor will serve as the seafood technology
specialist in the Department of Food Science for the LSU Agrtcultural
Center (AgCenter) and the LSU Sea Grant College Program in all
areas pertaining to seafood processing and quality induding food
safety, HACCP, procession technology, waste disposal and other
related areas. (S)he will coordinate and plan activities with
seafood processing research counterpart(s) through regular meetings,
cooperative grants and contract efforts, advisory efforts with
students and all other activities that will foster a seamless
interface between Extension and Research. The incumbent will provide
educational opportunities and information to the seafood processing
industry through training, updates, publications, workshops, newsletters,
bulletins, web sites, mass media, plant visits and other viable
means of communication. The specialist will organize and give
direction and leadership to a seafood technology industry advisory
group and work cooperatively with other value-added specialists
to establish a Department and AgCenter food industry advisory
panel to establish a forum for industry support and direction.
(S)he will actively seek extramural funding through grants and
contracts to build a viable extension and applied research program
in seafood technology and processing.
Qualification
Requirements: Ph.D. in Food Science or related
discipline required. Applicant should be proficient in appropriate
analytical techniques and computer applications. Effective human
relations skills are required to work with a variety of clientele
and professional groups. Interest in a mission-oriented research
program and knowledge of food production practices are highly
desirable. Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in
written form with a variety of audiences is required.

& Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with
training and experience. The LSU AgCenter has an attractive benefits

John P. Laborde Endowed Chair for Sea Grant Research and Technology

Required
Qualifications: Applicants should be nationally
or internationally recognized for contributions in some area of
marine or coastal research, technology transfer, education or
business development. Academically affiliated candidates must
hold the rank of full professor or its equivalent and will carry
similar faculty rank with the Chair appointment.
Appointment:
Appointment duration can vary between a few months
to a maximum of one year and dates, duration and compensation/support
are negotiable; we encourage nominations of individuals eligible
for one-half or a full year sabbatical from their institutions.
Appointees will perform work that directly supplements or complements
activities being conducted by the Louisiana Sea Grant College
Program or other sponsored research, technology transfer or education
projects administered by the LSU Office of Sea Grant Development.
Scholarly work in research or teaching would also be encouraged
with appropriate discipline-based academic departments at one
of Louisiana’s higher education institutions. Those interested

and submit a nomination letter with the candidate’s curriculum
vitae, summary of expertise/interests, proposed activity; preferred
appointment dates and salary requirements. Nominators should also
indicate their willingness to host and provide administrative

Sea Grant Communications Internship — Closed
The Louisiana
Sea Grant College program, based at Louisiana State University's
Baton Rouge campus, seeks a communication intern for the Spring
2008 semester. The intern will work 15 hours per week for 16 weeks
and be paid $7.50 per hour.
Qualifications: Candidates must be full-time,
upper-level undergraduate students or full-time graduate students
majoring in mass communications or English.
Responsibilities:
Primary duties include researching, writing and editing content
for a variety of Louisiana Sea Grant print and electronic publications.
Other duties may include still and video photography; collection
of oral histories for a Web-based project about the commercial
fishing culture of south Louisiana; assist with conferences; assist
with general Communications office functions; other tasks as assigned.
The Communications office may also support self-directed projects
that fulfill Sea Grant’s mission.
Louisiana

of 32 university-based programs located in each of the coastal
and Great Lakes states and Puerto Rico. Sea Grant programs work
individually and in partnership to address major marine and coastal
