Coastal Connections at UL Lafayette @ Oliver Hall Auditorium, University of Louisiana at Lafayette
Apr 4 @ 4:00 pm

Louisiana Sea Grant is excited to sponsor the Coastal Connections competition at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette on Thursday, April 4, 2019. Coastal Connections is modified from the Three Minute Thesis (3MT™) approach to research communication competition developed by The University of Queensland. The exercise develops academic, presentation, and research communication skills and supports the development of students’ capacities to effectively explain their research in language appropriate to non-specialist audience. Graduate students have three minutes to present a compelling oration on their research topic and its significance using up to two PowerPoint slides. Coastal Connections focuses on the ability of students to consolidate their ideas and crystalize their research discoveries.

Microplastics in Louisiana Waters @ Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality - Pensacola Room/LDEQ Annex Building
Apr 18 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Plastic is common in several modern products we use every day, from clothing to containers and everything in between.  There is so much plastic in use that it has become a problem with our waterways.  How are our fisheries impacted?  Does it affect our drinking water supplies?  Please join us for a free presentation and demonstration on microplastics in Louisiana’s waterways.

The presentation will be followed by an interactive display.

Scheduled speakers will include Dr. Mark Benfield, Professor of LSU’s Department of Oceanography and Coastal Sciences; and Alma Robichaux, Education/Outreach Coordinator with the Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program.

The presentation is open to LDEQ and the public, and registration is not required.
