In Memory of Elizabeth Coleman

Elizabeth Benton Coleman Becker died at her residence in Baton Rouge on May 20, 2018, at the age of 77. She had served as communications director with Louisiana Sea Grant for 25 years.

She was born on May 2, 1941, in Minden, La., and is survived by her brother Tony Coleman. She is preceded in death by her husband Ronald Becker and parents Maurice and Clayton W. Coleman.

With a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from LSU in 1963, she began her professional writing career in New York City, where she worked in the publishing industry. She returned to Louisiana to hold several positions prior to joining Louisiana Sea Grant.

After retiring from LSU, she became an ordained deacon in the Episcopal Church, serving Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit in Baton Rouge and subsequently the newly formed Holy Cross Anglican Church.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 9 at St. John’s United Methodist Church; followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. Friends and family are invited to join the family at the internment to be held at Greenoaks Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Holy Cross Anglican Church.
