Environmental Explorations
Investigations into environmental phenomena are present in many of the Louisiana Student Standards for Science. With its variety of habitats, our state provides an ideal classroom to explore these concepts with students. And in this workshop, we’ll help you develop ways to share this with your students (both in and out of the classroom).
From water quality to coastal land loss to flooding, there are many avenues to integrate local environmental science into the classroom. This professional learning opportunity is designed to increase the participants’ content knowledge, boost their confidence in leading discussions on these topics and strategize methods to share this with students. Each day will start with a hands-on, field-based investigation where our group will explore a different aspect of Louisiana natural history. In the afternoons, the project partners will share lessons, resources and activities that can help bring these phenomena into the classroom.
This opportunity is open to all K-12 teachers involved with science literacy instruction. Participating teachers will have their accommodations, activities and meals covered during the workshop. Upon completion, they will also receive a stipend. This professional learning opportunity is a partnership between BayouSTEM, Louisiana Sea Grant and MissDelta.
