Charting a Course: Neptune Pass

Charting a Course: Neptune Pass

Flyer for "Charting a Course: Neptune Pass," a two-day teacher professional learning experience hosted by MissDelta and Louisiana Sea Grant. The flyer describes the program as an opportunity to explore Neptune Pass — one of the rapidly growing canals along the Mississippi River — alongside university researchers. Activities include collecting data in the field, experiencing delta building firsthand, classroom activities, and implementation training from Crevasse Curriculum Consulting. Complimentary lodging, meals, and activities are provided, along with a $200 stipend for participating teachers. The event is scheduled for June 29–30, 2026, in Buras, Louisiana. Registration is available at https://shorturl.at/h9qos. Three circular photos show teachers and students on a boat, working with hands-on materials indoors, and using binoculars outdoors. Logos for MissDelta and Louisiana Sea Grant appear at the bottom alongside the website www.laseagrant.org/education/pd/neptune. A decorative compass rose graphic appears in the upper right corner.

Come explore the delta-making process in real life at one of Louisiana’s newest landforms—Neptune Pass. Originally a small outlet of the river, the highwater flooding from 2019, rapidly transformed this canal. It has more than quadrupled in size in the last 10 years and now carries out 16% of the Mississippi’s River’s flow to adjacent wetlands. This trip will allow you to see Louisiana wetland dynamics up close and personal. This is a very unique opportunity to share with your students, as this place is not easily accessible.
