Aquaculture Internship Details

Interns will receive 12-24 weeks of hands-on aquaculture training at an established aquaculture or aquaculture supporting entity.

Interns will work up to 40 hours/week. Interns are paid $20.00/hour through stipends from Louisiana Sea Grant. Interns are paid bi-weekly.

Interns participate in two weeks of aquaculture orientation trainings. Interns are paid during orientations. Travel reimbursement is provided for orientation training.

  • Orientation Training at location to be determined (one-week)
  • Aquaculture Bootcamp (one-week; Grand Isle, LA)

Interns receive three aquaculture professional development workshops. Interns are paid during the workshops. Travel reimbursement is provided for workshops.

  • Business and Marketing Workshop (one-day; Harvey, LA)
  • Seafood Processing Workshop (two-days; Jeanerette, LA)
    • Seafood Availability/Supply Chain/Value-Added Products
    • Seafood Safety and Good Manufacturing Practices

Interns are reimbursed up to $500 for personal protection equipment needed to complete their internship.

Important Dates:

  • Orientation – Week of Aug. 24. Location to be determined.
  • Aquaculture Bootcamp – Week of Aug. 31. Location: Grand Isle, LA
  • Interns will start working with participating businesses the week of Sept. 7
  • Seafood Processing Workshop – Sept. 29-30. Location: Jeanerette, LA
  • Business and Marketing Workshop – Nov. 4. Location: Harvey, LA
