About Grand Isle Oyster Research Lab Staff

 

Brian CallumBrian Callam, Ph.D.

Callam has extensive experience working with triploid oysters, stemming back to his master’s degree work in Virginia. While at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science, he held positions as an oyster restoration assistant, a field and hatchery technician and ultimately a graduate research assistant. In 2014, he arrived in coastal Louisiana to begin his PhD work and work as a research associate at the Oyster Lab. He completed his doctoral program in 2018 and served as the lab’s breeding and research manager until his appointment as director.

Olivia graduated from the University of Tampa in 2018 with an bachelor’s degree in Marine Science and Biology with a minor in Chemistry.  While pursuing her degree she interned at the Florida Aquarium and worked as the Science and Nature Specialist at Camp Cedar Mill in Massachusetts.  In 2018 she started at the Oyster Lab where she works primarily on larval production.

Lesley graduated from San Francisco State University in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in Marine Biology and Limnology. While in the Bay Area, she volunteered for the Marine Mammal Center and worked as a lab and field assistant restoring native eelgrass beds and identifying various invertebrates. She started at the Oyster Lab in October 2019.
