Disaster Aid Resources Available Online
Prepare now for hurricane season with guides to individual and community resources to federal disaster aid available online at www.laseagrant.org/resources/disaster-aid. Materials walk you through FEMA programs you may need following a hurricane or other natural disaster.
These resources cover a wide range of topics, including how to find your disaster declaration, types of federal aid and how to apply, what to know about debris removal, as well as information on fisheries disasters.
The materials developed by Louisiana Sea Grant (LSG) focus on federal policies and apply to natural disaster recovery in all U.S. states. While the pilot project centered on Louisiana, the team created factsheet templates available for other states as well that can be quickly deployed in times of need.
“These resources apply to all major disasters, not just hurricanes,” said Niki Pace, Louisiana Sea Grant research attorney. “The materials provide a foundational understanding of federal resources following a disaster and help applicants through the process to apply for assistance.”
The factsheets and videos were created by LSG with funding from the Coastal Response Research Center and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Disaster Response Center. Factsheets and videos are available in English, Spanish and Vietnamese.
Since its establishment in 1968, Louisiana Sea Grant (www.laseagrant.org) has worked to promote stewardship of the state’s coastal resources through a combination of research, education and outreach programs critical to the cultural, economic and environmental health of Louisiana’s coastal zone. Louisiana Sea Grant, based at LSU, is part of the National Sea Grant College Program, a network of 34 university-based programs in each of the U.S. coastal and Great Lakes states and Puerto Rico.
