Louisiana Regional Fisheries Summit 2025: Freshwater Impacts in the Pontchartrain Basin

Call for Infographics Competition

Louisiana Sea Grant will host their Louisiana Regional Fisheries Summit 2025: Freshwater Impacts in the Pontchartrain Basin on March 25, 2025. As part of the Summit, there will be an infographic session where students will display their work and briefly present their research. An infographic is a tool that combines imagery, text and statistical figures to easily convey a subject. They help communicate information quickly and clearly. In this competition, students will use a mixture of visual imagery and text to effectively communicate their research findings.

The competition is open to graduate students conducting coastal research related, but not exclusive to, the Pontchartrain Basin—including, but not limited to the fields of anthropology, biology, design, ecology, economics, engineering, geography, geology, history and sociology.

This infographic competition focuses on the ability of students to consolidate their ideas, crystallize their research discoveries and share them using the power of visual media.

Application Timeline

  • March 7: Final date to submit infographic and brief explanation paragraph to Dominique Seibert (dseibert@agcenter.lsu.edu) in PDF format.
  • March 14: Ten students will be notified of their selection as a competition finalist via email.
  • March 25: Infographic posters on display at Slidell Municipal Auditorium (2056 2nd St, Slidell, LA 70458) where the winner will be selected.

Judging Criteria

Infographics will be evaluated on the following criteria:

  • Content: Is the infographic informative, does it contain original research, is the subject matter compelling?
  • Creativity: Does the infographic draw the audience in, is information presented in interesting ways to tell a story, does the format/layout flow well?
  • Design: Does the infographic adequately balance substance and style, is it visually appealing, are fonts and figures legible?
  • Clarity: Is the infographic easy to understand, makes sense to the audience?

Infographics will be judged by Regional Fisheries Summit attending stakeholders and will be ranked on a 1-10 scale.

Prize

Louisiana Sea Grant will offer a travel award of $500 to the top selected student. This travel award is for professional meetings or development opportunities that would allow the students to cultivate skills for sharing their research. These awards are to be used for meetings within a year of the Louisiana Regional Fisheries Summit.
