Sims Moves into New Role

Octavia Sims has moved into a new position with Louisiana Sea Grant as the Education office’s AmeriCorps/Serve Louisiana Volunteer for Husbandry and Stewardship Affiliate. Sims will assist with aquaculture and husbandry programs, educational programming, event coordination, outreach and K–12 lesson development. The role comprises ongoing activities such as Ocean Commotion, Wetland Days, LSU Coastal Roots and Native Fish in the Classroom.

“In my new role, I hope to become more familiar with Louisiana’s aquaculture and horticulture landscape, learn more about K–12 husbandry projects both in Louisiana and beyond, and become more adept at incorporating current research into public education and outreach.” Sims said. “I’m also looking forward to learning more about the variety of careers available in coastal and marine science as I continue exploring the field and pursuing graduate school.”

Previously, Sims served as the Education office’s AmeriCorps Education and Outreach Coordinator.
