Seafood Academy, Dock Day Slated for March 24

DELCAMBRE – On March 24, the annual Louisiana Direct Seafood Academy and Dock Day workshops will be held at the Delcambre Shrimp Building, 411 Main Street. The Seafood Academy, designed for shrimpers, takes place from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. and will include lunch. Dock Day, which focuses on the crabbing industry, will be from 6-8 p.m.

Both events are free. Registration is requested, but not required.

Topics to be covered during the morning session include:

  • Updates on Shrimp Industry
  • Safe Harbor Project
  • Personal Floatation Devices
  • NOAA Regulations/Updates
  • Shrimp Quality: Air Circulation, Ice and Refrigeration
  • US Coast Guard: Vessel Requirements, Fire-fighting Demo

Programming in the evening session includes:

  • Crab Updates and Statistics
  • Crab Professionalism Program
  • Refrigeration and Handling
  • Artificial Bait
  • US Coast Guard Regulations
  • Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) Crab Fishery Management Plan
  • LDWF Enforcement

The events are part of the Louisiana Fisheries Forward Program, which is sponsored by the Louisiana Sea Grant College Program, LSU AgCenter and Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
