Exhibitor Information

Join us for Ocean Commotion at LSU’s Pete Maravich Assembly Center. This will be a day to share knowledge about our coast and environment with Louisiana K-8 students. The event runs from 7 am –3 pm (including set-up and tear-down). Students will come in two waves: middle school in the morning, elementary in the afternoon. Parking, lunch, and a t-shirt are included.

Save the Swamp!

In this board game, players become protectors of the wetlands! Students draw cards that highlights either a way to help wetlands thrives like planting marsh grasses or reducing pollution or a factor that harms wetlands, such as littering or invasive species. The first player to reach the finish line has successfully navigated the challenges and has saved the swamp!

Walnut Bayou

Walnut Bayou is a model that showcases fluvial geomorphology processes of a flowing water body. Using a water pump for circulation and crushed walnut shells as a substrate, it demonstrates the ability of moving water to transport and deposit sediment in a dynamic environment such as a river or stream. We discuss environmental and other stressors that impact the quality of water and movement.

Pipeline Pressure Challenge

Interactive demonstration that simulates the design, assembly, and testing of a miniature pipeline system. Using clear tubing, connectors, and syringes to simulate pressure, students will experiment with how fluid moves through a system, how leaks occur, and how to build more efficient and reliable designs.

Imagine putting on special VR goggles and suddenly standing in the middle of a city during a huge storm.
