Who Can Apply?

Anyone over the age of 18.

Must have graduated high school. Must have reliable transportation. Must be US Citizens.

How long is the internship program? Will I get paid?

Interns work up to 40 hours/week. Interns are paid $20.00/hour through stipends from Louisiana Sea Grant. Interns are paid bi-weekly.

Interns are paid during orientation and professional development workshops. Interns receive travel reimbursement for orientation and workshops.

Interns receive reimbursement for personal protection equipment up to $500.

What are the physical demands of this kind of work?

Due to the nature of the work, the internship requires the same prerequisites as the commercial businesses that are hiring. Interns must be able to lift 40-50 lbs., walk/work on uneven surfaces, bend and stoop for prolonged periods of time. Field work may take place on docks, boats, and in the water at farm lease sites so interns must know how to swim.

Interns may be asked by participating business to occasionally work weekends.

Interns will be compensated for all work hours up to 40 hours/week.

How will I be matched with an aquaculture business?

Applicants will be given the opportunity to rank aquaculture sectors of interest and communicate willingness to travel or relocate in order to work in those sectors.
